Term 1 2021 - lockdown number 2! We've got this Gulf Harbour: Check out these ideas to keep you busy :)

Click on this link: Holton Takes the Ice and enjoy a heart warming and very clever story about a boy that was born into an ice hockey family, but wanted to be a figure skater.

Task 1

Listen to the story and decide which statement - or statements, several ones can be chosen - are correct. Then think about why you think so:

The story is about resilience, because ..........................

The story is about being different, because ........................

The story says that it's easy to be different, because .................

The story says that it's hard to be different, because .........

Task 2

I love the great language in the story. The author describes how Holton skates in so many different ways. Listen carefully - how many words can you write down that Sandra Bradley used in her story?

Task 3

If you could be amazing at any sport, what would it be? Would you want to be the fastest runner in the world? A figure skater? An All Black or a swimmer? Tell me what it would be and why you would love to be that top athlete. Draw a picture of yourself playing this sport.

Task 4

The Holton family had a lot of ice hockey photos on their wall. Can you draw a picture of Henry as a figure skater in a frame so that his picture can make it onto the wall, too?

For our new language learners (and enybody who wants to revise some vocabulary) these games might be fun. If you click on the words, the link becomes visible:

By the way, the video doesn't tell you that a syllable always contains a vowel (a, e, i, o, u). That makes it easier to know, where to chop the word.

A big shoutout to Leah for working on a tasdk about Jane Addams. Here is her email:

Hello Mrs Goodall this is my answers to the Jane Addams questions 1.What prestigious prize did Jane Addams receive in 1931? Indeed , she was admitted to a Baltimore hospital on the very day , December 10 ,1931 , that the Noble peace was being awarded to her in Oslo. 2. Name some of the causes Jane Addams worked for in her life. Jane Addams worked to help the poor and to stop the use of children as industrial laborers.
